Fun with Fonts

Posted at 5:16pm by

TheQuickBrownFox v0.01

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog is a popular sentence that uses all the letters in the English alphabet, a phrase called a pangram! A famous and concise sentence that we often see it in font shops, this little film is one of the best imaginings yet! I hope this becomes a series, imagine other pangrams -  'Pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs' and 'How quickly daft jumping zebras vex'....

The moving, animated fonts are delightful and it's great to see such consideration given to bringing typographic shapes into playful physical forms. This is also great inspiration for an upcoming installation piece!

Thanks FontFont and starkfilms

Mishaps and a Salad Leaf Plant

Posted at 5:02pm by

20141124 SaladLeafPlant v0.01

So... it's getting to that time of year again with only four and a half weeks till the end of the working year and it feels like it's going to be a landslide to get there. Three photoshoots in as many days and something was bound to give. Taking the brunt of our lethargy was our poor little salad leaf plant, highly featured and the latest pet. Quick clean up and a new pot and it's take two.
It was a pretty good reminder to slow down, be methodical and focus on one thing at a time. Out salad leaf plant is loving his new slightly bigger pot and we just can't wait for a summer holiday!

The Block NZ Interior Photography

So we can finally post these images after sending Godfrey Hirst and Feltex artwork to print, they look beautiful printed! Home Style you really need these images! This was a whirl wind photography shoot in which we visited The Block NZ and photographed the interior spaces. On pack down the lense cap in my back pocket needed a wipe down! Yip, we really worked hard and fast, perhaps its the nature of such a production, every person on site is pushed to tight schedules.
Whilst not being an avid follower and have to admit to quickly watching snippets of episodes online the day before we were blown away at the styling of some of the spaces, especially when considering the essence of time and TV personalities are always in question.
Different personalities certainly created different styles and it was fascinating to experience the expressions and feels in each house.

Nimbus - Photography Wizardry

Berndnaut Smilde

These photographs are breathtaking and rife with conceptual metaphors...
Bringing the elements inside... Exploring interior spaces with external elements... The artist as god...  Weather galleries. Temporal, sculptural and temporal. Ephemeral micro-climates!
The list goes on...

Smilde certainly created a moment where you know something profound and ephemeral has happened and these images are not just the witness, but part of the action, the experience.
Wouldn't you just love to experience these moments or better still know all the behind the scenes info! To this extent are these action shots? How long do these clouds last and how even did Smilde get approval to make these grand spaces so damp... The wizardry of these shots really do make the mind crave for more, to understand the science behind the art and to experience the climate of these spaces.

Is hearing someones voice the online version of seeing someones handwriting? Now that we type most messages it can be quite sometime before seeing someones handwriting. How long can you work with someone before seeing how they hash out notes? Handwriting can be so personable, anyway I love that this short video gives so much insight into the artists personality just by hear the tone and attenuation of his words.

We spend a lot of our time diligently taking and editing photos. Selecting the props, styling product, adjusting the lighting, balancing the colours, enhancing textures and cleaning up dust. When it comes to the editing process there is nothing more satisfying than getting your white the right colour and believe me, white is a colour.WhiteSwatches

Launch Event Time Lapse

Posted at 3:56am by

DSC 2749

We can finally show you our time lapse of the Sileni Wine launch at Britomart Country Club a few weeks ago. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful location to shoot in - all that natural light and eclectic decor! People are so great to watch and a time lapse was the perfect way to capture the entire evening.

We are really exictied to start experimenting with the D4's film features and splice both time lapse and video footage.
No wine was consumed during the making of this film.

Salad Leaf Plant Time Lapse Animation

Posted at 3:11am by

SaladLeafPlant

So the phrase 'Mind the Tripod' has been trumpeted a little this week. Our latest pet plant made it to our studio after searching high and low for this current and highly acclaimed interior species - thank you Sub Tropica for delivering this to our door. Culminating with a fancy new piece of  Astro Time Lapse photography kit, it only seemed natural to document the growth of a Salad Leaf plant!

The large jumps in this animation are the amazing growth spurts which occur between six at night and six in the morning, who would have thought photosynthesis had a night life. Its been interesting to watch the colour temperature variances of natural light shift between early morning and through the duration of the days.

The magical delight in this time lapse is revealing what goes unobserved in the gradual shift of time.
The Astro is a great piece of kit, however its largest increment is 35 seconds and I wish it went to one hour increments. This animations stills are shot every 45minutes. Cant resist watching this guy growing  so will leave this animation running next week too - don't move the tripod!

Minerals Collection Book

Posted at 3:41am by

20141021 MineralsBook v0.01

This is a gorgeous singer sewn A5 booklet for a great client launching their new colour collection. The booklet features B&F Ice Gold paper which adds a subtle shimmering finish to selected colour feature papers, love this stock! The books mixed stock was a perfect touch to complement the collections story of indulgence and desire; an understated tactility which only the allure of print could convey.
We see the three fold cover as a great resource for new presentations and as a useful quick reference guide when specifying the product. The booklet is full of rich interior images which we styled and photographed especially for this product launch. We were inspired by colour matched natural images and the booklet is now a beautiful flowing gradient of colours and a visually compelling and sensual story. So on that note, just in the nick of time for our Tuesday post, happy Tuesday!
